Death reference of Xulhaz, Tonoy murder case reaches HC

Six militants were sentenced in the death of Xulhaz Mannan, a former USAID official, and Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy to death in April 2016.

The Daily Star was informed by Md Saifur Rahman, a special officer at the HC, that officials from the Dhaka tribunal brought the documents, including the judgment, today.

Saifur stated that "The HC authorities will now create documents for hearing on death reference."

On August 30, Judge Md Majibur Rahman of Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka sentenced six members of Ansar al Islam, a banned militant group, to death for the murders of Tonoy and Xulhaz.

Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Akram Hossain and Mozammel Hossain Simon were the convicts. Arafat Rahman Siam, Sheikh Abdullah, Jubair, and Asadullah, alias Foyjul were also among them.

Xulhaz and Tonoy were both hacked to death in Dhaka's Kalabagan on April 25, 2016.

Minhaz Mannan Emon was Xulhaz’s brother and filed a murder case against unidentified assailants at Kalabagan Police Station on that day.
